Come and follow me

      Come”, said Jesus

“Yes, Lord. But…O what about yesterday?”

“I have forgotten it. Just come…”

“Thank you, Lord. But… what about tomorrow?”

Let me handle that. Just come…!”

The Jesuits are members of an international religious order of Catholic Priests and Brothers known as ‘The Society of Jesus’. It was founded by the Soldier turned Saint, Ignatius of Loyola. His aim to found the Society is to Serve God and humanity.

The Society of Jesus carries out its mission chiefly through its educational institutions. The vision of Jesuit education is to form leaders in service in imitation of Jesus Christ, men and women of competence, conscience, compassionate and commitment. There are more than 2000 institutions established by the Society of Jesus throughout the world. The vision of Jesuits is enshrined in its motto, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (AMDG) – FOR THE GREATER GLORY OF GOD.

The Society of Jesus has golden openings to the Universal Church. The Society of Jesus is involved in and entrusted with various works by the Church.

Gujarat mission was established in the year 1922. It was then the part of Bombay mission. The foundational stones of mission were laid by Spanish Jesuits who were from the very land where St. Ignatius was born. The province has, besides the spiritual ministry, strengthened its educational ministry with colleges, schools and technical schools; it has plunged into social activities, among the rural poor & tribal and it generously assists the dioceses in pastoral works. The hardworking nature, commitment and generosity are the hall marks of a Jesuit. Gujarat Jesuits are making maximum efforts towards the liberation and development of the marginalized dalits, tribal, women, child labourers and refugees etc.

Jesuits derive their inspiration and strength from their sovereign leader Jesus who never hesitated to reach out to carry cross for the depressed and deprived sections of humanity in order to liberate them. It is in following this Christ who is risen and alive today, that Jesuits resolve to take the side of the oppressed.

              Arrupe says

“Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.”

“To a young man who wishes to be a Jesuit, I would say: come if serving Christ is at the very centre of your life.”

“Come and follow me.”

“What does it profit a man if he gains the

whole world but loses his soul?”
